How the scams work

Dashel uses many different types of scams, and adjusts them to fit the victim. The IT Business Investment Scam
1. Establish trust by talking about business, IT, assures the victim he's not a scammer saying things like "why would I use my real name to scam you?"
2. Ask for a small, short-term investment which Dashel Lathers assures will be paid back quickly with a lot extra.
3. Delay repayment, new stories about how a job fell through but with a bigger investment for a different job he'll be able to get the money back sooner with a lot extra. Step 3 continues until the victim won't send any more money. Repayment is never made.
In some cases Dashel Lathers took down payments for work he never performed.Dashel Lathers scammed over $150,000 from IT business owners using similar methods. The phone plan scam
In several instances Dashel convinced people to join his cell phone plan. The victims sent money for their phone bills each month, but Dashel kept the money and didn't pay the bill. The victims phone service was shut-off and in order to keep their phone number they had to pay thousands of dollars for the missed payments and fees.
The iPad scam
Another one of his scams is listing tech products for sale like iPads or phones and never shipping them after payment is received.
The MacBook scam
One victim paid Dashel $400 for a MacBook. After the MacBook never arrived, she tried to take him to small claims court but he couldn't be found to be served.
The PS5 scam
In one instance he sold a PS5 for $519 but never sent it or the money back.
The T-Mobile scam
On Reddit Dashel advertised an unlimited T-Mobile plan for $10/month claiming that he would add the lines to his company plan. After victims sent payment they never received the service.
The truck for sale scam
Dashel Lathers listed his truck for sale on Facebook and pressured one victim into sending a $33,000 wire transfer before they met. When the victim arrived, Dashel wasn't there. They weren't able to recover the money because Dashel moved it to another account right away so the reverse wire transfer failed.
The website development scam
In two instances Dashel Lathers took down payments for website development but never did any work and kept the money.
One was over $30,000.The driving scams
In several instances Dashel Lathers convinced different friends to drive him from New Hampshire to Texas and back. He never paid any of them as they agreed to.
The hiring scams
In several instances Dashel Lathers convinced different friends to do jobs for him in his IT business. He would collect the payment for the work but never pay people who worked for him.
The credit card scam
In another instance Dashel Lathers befriended a neighbor, bought her an expensive birthday gift, and later asked to borrow her credit card. He maxed the card out at $9,000, never repaid it, and left town.

Why Dashel never uses PayPal

Dashel Lathers likes to use Zelle, Cash App, and wire transfers because there is no mechanism to reverse the transaction, unlike a credit card payment where you can charge back or PayPal which has buyer protections built-in.As soon as he receives the money, Dashel moves it into a different account so that it can't be easily recovered through complaints to the bank.
